Welcome to our info site for
'Monday Night Scrappers'
Mini Guild.
We are a group of busy women who love to quilt, have coffee, laugh & share. We get together the 1st. Monday of each month, to do all those things.
Meetings are held at St. Michael's School Staff Room from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.
Please use and check this site for information on all our upcoming meetings, projects, plans and any changes.
A LITTLE HISTORY
We started getting together for coffee and 'show & share' in the evenings starting in the Fall of 2007.
Because most of the members work full time hours, we wanted to make it more of a social guild, than an actual working guild. But we also wanted to have a challenge to keep it fun.
Of course, we work on PERSONAL QUILTS as well. Our 'SHOW & SHARE is always full of "ooohs" and "aaahs". It's really wonderful what creative juices and people with 'Quiltin' Juice' can do with fabric!!
And, sometimes, we just have FUN.....
This year - 2012, we are challenging ourselves and each other to finish Our Oldest UFO. Several have jumped on board for the Slash and Pass again, and a few are doing a Row by Row. We will post them as they are completed for everyone to see how proud we are of actually finishing the challenges.
The F.Q. Exchange last year, worked out very well. Not only did we have a blast receiving them, but we had sooo much fun finding them ... so, we decided to do a repeat of F.Q. Exchange. (Only not by birthday month and no BD treats). So stay tuned for the 2011 CREATIVE CHALLENGE.
Our exchange for2010 was a "BIRTHDAY F.Q. EXCHANGE". Each member chose a theme or colour. The month of their birthday was the meeting they got a FQ from each of us in their choice of fabric.
That means- they acquired 15 FQs.
We also decided, that since this is a birthday, we should get a treat... so each person is responsible, for one person's gift bag, card and a small treat of NMT $5.00. All the birthday girl's FQs will be put in the bag and presented the meeting night of her birthmonth.
Starting January 2009, we did a "BLOCK OF THE MONTH" exchange. Each member did a 12 1/2" unfinished (12"finished) block of their choice for the member who's name was drawn for that month. The finished projects are wonderful !!
In 2008, an agreement was made to do a "BROWN BAG CHARM EXCHANGE" Each month, we exchanged 5" squares in the colour of that month's birthstone. There is quite a variety, and we all have to get busy putting them together into a quilt. Lots of ways to use our Charm Squares.
The first year, 2007, we agreed to do a "PASS AND SLASH" quilt exchange. We each started with a fat quarter of our choice, cut it apart vertically and added 4" then cut it apart horizontally and added 4". Then we passed it the following month to the next person in line and they did the same. It was very interesting and quite amazing to see the final outcome after 12 months of additions.
MAINSTAY INN hosts our "UFO WEEKENDS" and now they are all a great memory. A weekend of sewing projects, great food and lively conversations. This year we knew what to expect and got right down to finishing all those UFOs we brought !! (Ya right :~). Special thanks to Sandi and all her staff.
